Dubai is a city that seems determined to out-do itself every few blocks. We went up the Burj Khalifa at sunset and watched the whole coastline turn gold, then spent the next morning out in the desert on a dune drive that had us laughing and slightly terrified in equal measure.
The old town along Dubai Creek, with its wooden abras ferrying people across the water and the gold souk glittering under fluorescent lights, felt like a completely different city from the skyscrapers, and honestly, it was the part we talked about most on the flight home.
