Mornings in Ubud started with the sound of roosters and gamelan practice drifting up from somewhere nearby. We walked the Tegallalang rice terraces before the tour buses arrived, when it was just us, the terraced green, and a few farmers already out working.
A sunrise hike up Mount Batur left us freezing at the summit and then instantly warm as the sun came up over the clouds below. Evenings meant slow dinners overlooking the jungle, geckos chirping somewhere in the rafters, completely unhurried.
