The night markets in Chiang Mai are where the city really comes alive: stalls of khao soi and mango sticky rice, handmade lanterns, and a steady hum of night traffic on scooters. We visited Wat Phra That Doi Suthep at sunrise to beat the heat and the crowds, and the gold chedi against the morning mist was worth the early alarm.
A day trip to an ethical elephant sanctuary outside the city, where we helped bathe and feed rescued elephants rather than ride them, ended up being the most memorable afternoon of the whole trip.
